The Yorktown High School ice-hockey club team won its first road match of the season by holding off Tuscarora/Loudoun County by a 7-6 score.
With the victory, Yorktown improved to 3-1 and remained tied atop the Smythe Division of the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League.
Yorktown got goals from seven different players in the Dec. 13 match at the Ion Arena & Ion International Training Center in Leesburg.
Yorktown got off to a fast start when, just over one minute into the game, Bennett Haas took a pass, outraced the defense and beat the goalie to put Yorktown up 1-0. The Patriots added three more first-period goals from Matthew Hamrick, Peyton Dunn and William O’Sullivan to build a 4-0 lead.
Tuscarora/Loudoun County battled back with four goals in the second period, sandwiched around Yorktown goals from Jamie Hardie and Henry Dwyer.
With a bit more than six minutes left in the third period, Roger Allenbaugh scored to up Yorktown’s lead to 7-4. Tuscarora/Loudoun County answered with two goals and pulled its goalie in the final stages, but couldn’t tie the match.
Assists for Yorktown went to Dwyer, Allenbaugh and Benson Kluger. Brendan Thompson got the victory in net, making 25 saves.
The rest of the Yorktown lineup included John Chistolini, Alex Olsen, Andrew Olsen, Will Schryver, Stewart Bream, Andrew Levine, Carter Dunn, Alex Czelusniak and Gunnar Obitts.
