The old Days Inn sign is down and a new fence is up at an Arlington Blvd (Route 50) site slated for redevelopment.
However, there are still no active construction or demolition permits for 2201 Arlington Blvd, a 251-unit project that the Arlington County Board approved in July 2023.
The Arva Apartments, a proposed eight-story building, would replace the shuttered Days Inn across the street from Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
Project renderings depict a mixed-use structure with 3,000 square feet of retail and nods to the former motel’s triangular sign and glassy lobby exterior — defining features of the 69-year-old building at the corner of Arlington Blvd and Pershing Drive.
Multiple tipsters contacted ARLnow in the last weeks of 2024 about recent changes to the site, including the addition of a chain-link fence around its exterior.
A representative for the owner was unable to provide more information about these changes or a planned demolition and construction timeline.
When complete, the project is expected to bring protected bike lanes on both sides of N. Pershing Drive, while N. Wainwright Road will become a 12-foot multi-use trail. It is also expected to include seven affordable units, 25 trees and a public space that Arlington’s Department of Parks and Recreation will design.
The project has been in the works for several years, with the Arlington Planning Commission beginning a review of the site’s zoning back in 2020.
