The Barnes & Noble in Clarendon is temporarily closing this spring as plans to remodel and consolidate the space move forward.
Until May 23, the bookstore at 2800 Clarendon Blvd is holding a 25% off “last chance” sale on nearly all merchandise, a store manager told ARLnow. After that, the remodeling project is expected begin in the spring or summer and last through 2026.
Three Notch’d Brewing Company, a Virginia-based brewery and ax-throwing venue, is slated to move into a 10,160-square-foot space on the first floor of the location where Barnes & Noble has stood for nearly two decades.
The brewery plans to install a kitchen, a full taproom and a whiskey distillery in addition to an ax-throwing area, Three Notch’d CEO George Kastendike said back in October. The space is also slated to host a liquor store, where customers can purchase bottles of the company’s whiskey and bourbon to take home.
Barnes & Noble, meanwhile, will shrink to occupy the remaining 14,041 square feet on the building’s upper level. Regency Centers, the Clarendon mall’s operator, plans to install a new elevator and escalator connecting customers to the Barnes & Noble’s renovated upper level space.
Last month, Regency Senior Leasing Agent April Laney told ARLnow that Three Notch’d was “in for permit or very close.”
A second, as-yet unnamed tenant will share a portion of the first floor with the brewery. Regency Centers has listed the 2,659-square-foot retail space as available on its website.
