NEW: One hospitalized after basement fire in Westover

A house fire in Westover sent one person to the hospital Thursday night.

The blaze was reported around 7:30 p.m., in the basement of a home on the 5900 block of 16th Street N., about two blocks away from Westover’s shops and restaurants.

Initial reports suggest that several people were able to get out of the house before firefighters arrived on scene, but one person suffered burns to their lower body and was taken via ambulance to a local burn center. The person’s injuries are not life threatening, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.

The fire was reported to be out by 8 p.m. Firefighters continued working to ventilate smoke from the structure.

Fire marshals are now investigating the cause of the fire, according to ACFD.
