A pedestrian was struck and injured by a turning driver on N. Glebe Road near Marymount University’s main campus.
The crash happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection with 26th Street N.
Archived traffic camera footage via SafetyVid shows a driver turning left from 26th Street plowing into the pedestrian, who was wearing a bright blue poncho amid the rainy weather.
The pedestrian, who was in the crosswalk, can be seen rolling across the hood of the car before landing hard on the pavement. The driver does not appear to make an effort to stop until after the pedestrian lands on the road.
The striking driver and others then pull over to check on the person, who lies motionless in the roadway. One of the drivers brought over a first aid kit as the victim was covered with blankets. Police and firefighters arrived on scene shortly thereafter.
The victim was soon loaded onto a stretcher and rushed to a local hospital via ambulance.
So far there’s no word on how seriously injured the person is or whether the driver will face charges. One lane of northbound Glebe is getting by the crash scene as of publication time, after being completely blocked earlier.
