Theft suspect pepper sprayed, arrested after fracas at Pentagon City mall

It happened Tuesday morning when an officer confronted a shoplifting suspect, who then allegedly tried to flee, leading to a foot pursuit and a struggle.

The officer urgently called for other officers to “step it up” as a woman can be heard yelling in the background of his radio transmission, according to scanner traffic. The officer then called for a medic after advising that the subject was in custody and pepper spray was deployed.

The scene — near the Sephora store in the mall — was captured by a social media user.
