Thompson Italian hosts naming contest for revamped patio in Falls Church

An acclaimed Italian restaurant in Falls Church has almost completed a refresh of its patio and is seeking community suggestions to name the space.

Thompson Italian’s new outdoor dining area at 124 N Washington Street features picnic tables, yard games and a vintage trailer bar. The restaurant is now hosting a naming contest with prizes as it decides what to call the patio.

“We want this new space to feel like part of the neighborhood, so we’d love your help giving it a name,” the restaurant wrote in an email to patrons.

Entries close this Friday

  • Thompson Italian shared a couple ideas for inspiration, like “Back Forty,” “The Porch” and “Il Lotto” (“the lot” in Italian).
  • The restaurant will announce three finalists from the contest next Friday, June 13, before hosting a final vote.
  • The top winner will receive a $100 gift card to the restaurant, and the two runners-up will get $50 gift cards.

New drinks for aperitivo hour

  • Thompson Italian also added six new cocktail offerings to its drink menu last month. They’re all $10 during aperitivo happy hour from opening to 6 p.m.
  • The drinks include a martini trio and the “Bad and Boujee,” a sparkling rosé with strawberry vodka, dragon fruit aperitif, verjus blanc and pomegranate molasses.
