County leaders are promising to help Cherrydale residents address concerns about spillover parking and abandoned vehicles near Langston Blvd.
They’re also encouraging residents to consider creating more residential parking zones to help with the issues.
“We are looking to provide a coordinated county response,” said Jenny Hodge, a constituent-services liaison with the county manager’s office, at a Saturday meeting.
Hodge said several county departments met earlier in the month in a “very robust” meeting, helping to create a blueprint for future action. County officials plan to meet with the Cherrydale Citizens Association in mid-September to provide an update.
Before then, county staff suggested residents on streets where there are traffic concerns to petition for further parking restrictions.
Portions of Cherrydale already have residential parking zones in place, but some of the residential areas that push up against the commercial corridor along Langston Blvd do not.
Restricting parking to residents during certain times of day “is very beneficial in circumstances such as these,” Hodge said.
“It doesn’t have to be neighborhood-wide. I could be just on a handful of blocks,” she said.

Given the variety of county agencies involved, coordination will require time, County Board member Susan Cunningham said.
“It takes a lot of hands to get there,” she said.
