A health-care nonprofit focused on providing affordable services in Northern Virginia is planning to construct a new medical office on Columbia Pike.
Public records show Neighborhood Health is preparing to open a clinic at 2301 Columbia Pike, where XSport Fitness gym closed in 2021. The medical group has over a dozen locations in the region, including a nearby pediatric center at 3401 Columbia Pike.
It aims to ‘expand access’ to care
- Out of Neighborhood Health’s 41,000-plus patients last year, 92% came from a racial or ethnic minority group, and 64% preferred to speak a language other than English, according to the clinic’s 2023-24 annual report.
- In addition, the clinic identified 97% of its patients as low-income and reported that 85% were uninsured or received Medicaid benefits.
- “Neighborhood Health’s first strategic goal is to expand access to healthcare for under-resourced communities in Northern Virginia,” the report says.
Neighborhood Health provides primary care
- The clinic offers routine check-ups, pediatric care, vaccines and cancer screenings, along with lab testing, dentistry and urgent care.
- Its locations also provide reproductive health care, services for HIV/AIDS patients and outpatient behavioral health counseling.
- A permit application filed by Neighborhood Health in April calls for “interior alterations for a new medical office with clinical support and administrative areas on the first floor.”
Other providers located nearby
- Neighborhood Health is constructing in the same building as Children’s Dentistry of Arlington and less than a mile away from an AllCare clinic at Westmont Apartments.
- Nearby, nonprofit Arlington Free Clinic provides pro bono health care to uninsured residents at 2921 11th Street S.
