The Arlington Police Department (ACPD) and Virginia State Police carried out a parking enforcement operation on Four Mile Run Drive and S. George Mason Drive following complaints about abandoned cars.
ACPD tweeted yesterday (Thursday) that “neighborhood concerns” spurred on the stepped-up enforcement. Virginia State Police assisted with identifying fraudulent inspection stickers.
According to ACPD Communications Manager Ashley Savage:
The Arlington County Police Department and Virginia State Police conducted parking enforcement along S. Four Mile Run Drive, between Shirlington Road and Walter Reed Drive, and S. George Mason Drive, between S. Four Mile Run Drive and 6th Street S., in response to community concerns regarding abandoned vehicles causing a lack of adequate community parking, commercial vehicles parked in violation of posted signage and vehicles displaying improper registration and license plates. Virginia State Police assisted with identifying fraudulent inspection stickers displayed on some of the vehicles parked in the area.
Police said there was:
- 11 tickets issued for fraudulent Virginia State Inspection Stickers
- 15 vehicles impounded for violations
- 52 total tickets issued
Savage said community complaints had directed ACPD to commercial vehicles, particularly abandoned ones, that needed to be towed away.
“Recently, police department personnel conducting parking enforcement in the area as a result of community complaints identified a number of commercial vehicles with violations that would result in towing,” Savage said. “Today’s coordinated parking enforcement efforts ensured adequate resources, including specialized heavy-duty tow trucks, were in place to safely facilitate parking enforcement and towing.”
