Woman hospitalized after being struck by falling tree branch on trail

A woman was injured by a tree on a relatively remote section of the Pimmit Run Trail this afternoon.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on the trail, which runs along Pimmit Run near the Arlington-Fairfax County border. Initial reports suggest the woman was struck by a large, falling tree branch, suffering potential back and neck injuries.

Fire department personnel staged on N. Richmond Street — one of the northernmost residential streets in Arlington — and along the GW Parkway while conducting a nearly hour-long rescue operation through the rugged terrain, according to scanner traffic. Lanes of the Parkway were briefly closed as a result of the emergency activity.

The woman was taken via ambulance to a local hospital around 3:15 p.m.

Update on 10/20/25: The woman died from her injuries, authorities confirmed to ARLnow.
