Police: Alexandria man driving wrong way threatened traffic safety worker in Clarendon

A 41-year-old man who allegedly drove the wrong way in Clarendon early Thursday morning, amid Thanksgiving Eve road closures, is facing charges.

The Alexandria man threatened a traffic safety specialist who confronted him while driving through a cone pattern, then accelerated his car towards the worker, according to the Arlington County Police Department. He was later pulled over in the Lyon Village neighborhood, arrested, and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT, 2025-11270016, N. Highland Street at N. Hartford Street. At approximately 1:13 a.m. on November 27, police were dispatched to the report of an Arlington County Police Department Transportation Safety Specialist in need of backup. Upon arrival, it was determined while the TSS was conducting a road closure in the area, he observed the male suspect drive the wrong direction through a marked traffic cone pattern. The TSS confronted the suspect who allegedly began yelling threatening statements towards him before accelerating and stopping his vehicle towards the TSS. The suspect the fled the scene in his vehicle. No injuries were reported. A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located him in the area of N. Franklin Street and N. Edgewood Street and took him into custody. [The suspect], 41, of Alexandria, Va. was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
