A 5K race and winter celebrations in South Arlington are taking place this weekend, bringing road closures.
The Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell 5K, A Very Village Holiday winter market and The Lodge holiday festival are all happening on Saturday, and road closures begin on Friday evening.
The Lodge
This free, family-friendly event at Metropolitan Park (1330 S. Fair Street) in Pentagon City will feature live music, festive crafts, a holiday market, winter games and a “Holiday Train.”
It also comes with some friendly competition, including a dog sweater contest and a peppermint mocha latte competition between nine local retailers. Additionally, a holiday karaoke “showdown” will begin at 6 p.m.
The event runs from 1-7 p.m. The following road closures will be in effect, according to a traffic alert from the Arlington County Police Department.
From approximately 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 until 5 a.m. on Dec. 7:
- S. Elm Street from 13th Street S. to 14th Street S.
From approximately 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Dec. 6:
- S. Fair Street from 13th Street S. to 14th Street S.
Jingle Bell 5K
This festive fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation is taking place elsewhere in Pentagon City the same morning.
“Let’s lace up, hit the pavement, and jingle our way toward victory over arthritis!” an event page says.
The following road closures will be in effect for the race.
From approximately 6-11 a.m.
- Northbound lanes of S. Joyce Street, between 15th Street S. and Army Navy Drive
From approximately 7:30-11 a.m.
- Army Navy Drive, between S. Joyce Street and 25th Street S.
- Southbound lanes of S. Joyce Street, between 15th Street S. and Army Navy Drive
A Very Village Holiday
This holiday market at The Village at Shirlington (2700 S. Quincy Street) will feature live music, seasonal treats, goods from local artisans and photos with Santa Claus.
During the event from 4-7 p.m., ACPD is also hosting a toy drive where donors can drop off new, unwrapped toys for children in need. The following road closure will be in effect.
From approximately midnight to 11 p.m.
- Campbell Avenue, from 28th Street S. to S. Randolph Street
