A driver has died after a crash in Ballston Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. on N. Taylor Street, between Wilson Blvd and Fairfax Drive, just over a block away from the Metro station.
A blue Subaru heading southbound veered off the road and onto the sidewalk next to The Jefferson retirement community, taking out a street tree and light poles before crashing into a parked vehicle.
N. Taylor Street was closed for several hours while police conducted a critical crash investigation.
Arlington County police confirmed Tuesday night that the driver suffered a medical emergency and was later pronounced dead. More, below, from an ACPD press release.
At approximately 1:58 p.m., police were dispatched to the report of a crash with injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle, an adult male, was traveling southbound on N. Taylor Street when he left the roadway, struck multiple parked vehicles and a pole. The driver sustained serious injuries, was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased. The sole passenger of the vehicle was not injured.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending proper identification and notification of next of kin.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver suffered an apparent medical emergency. On Thursday, ACPD identified the deceased man as 72-year-old Hillen Grason, Sr. of Windsor, Pennsylvania.
