Northbound I-395 and S. Glebe Road are reopening after an earlier closure caused by a vehicle that crashed into a propane tank along the highway.
“Units are on scene of a propane leak from a 500-gallon tank at the N. Glebe Rd exit on I-395 northbound after a vehicle struck the tank,” the Arlington County Fire Department said on social media at 7 p.m. “I-395 northbound is closed for the foreseeable future. The driver was not injured. Crews are actively working to mitigate the leak.”
Less than 10 minutes later, however, scanner traffic suggests that first responders were able to close a valve that stopped the leak.
“A vehicle ran off the roadway and sheared a pipe from the propane tank,” ACFD said. “The hazmat team shut off the source and mitigated the hazard.”
“Units are cleaning up and will be clearing the scene shortly,” the fire department posted around 7:25 p.m. “[Northbound I-395] will be reopening shortly.”
Final Update: The hazmat team quickly identified the source and secured the leak. Units will be returning to service shortly, and roadways will reopen.
