A Maryland man is facing numerous charges after “a series of property crimes targeting Arlington homes and a business.”
The 34-year-old from Waldorf allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, store merchandise and other items in nearly a dozen Arlington incidents dating back to mid-2025.

The Arlington County Police Department is announcing the arrest of a suspect in a series of property crimes targeting Arlington homes and a business. Duane Barnes, 34, of Waldorf, MD, is charged with Burglary (x3), Grand Larceny (x8), Larceny with Intent to Sell (x5), Petit Larceny (x3) and Destruction of Property (x3). He is being held in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
The suspect’s 22 criminal charges stem from the following 11 incidents:
- At approximately 3:36 p.m. on December 16, 2025, police were dispatched to the 2400 block of N. Underwood Street for the report of a residential burglary. The suspect forced entry into the home and stole electronics and jewelry before fleeing the scene.
- At approximately 12:09 p.m. on December 22, 2025, police were dispatched to the 100 block of S. Irving Street for the report of a residential burglary. The suspect forced entry into the home and stole electronics and jewelry before fleeing the scene.
- At approximately 12:04 p.m. on January 6, 2026, police were dispatched to the 2500 block of McKinley Street for the report of a breaking and entering. The suspect forced entry into a home, rummaged through the interior and stole jewelry. The suspect fled the scene when the victim returned to the residence.
- On eight occasions between July 2025 – January 2026, the suspect entered a retail store in the 1400 block of S. Hayes Street and stole clothing, totaling thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise.
Police conducted a thorough criminal investigation which led to the identification of the suspect. Warrants were obtained for his arrest and he was taken into custody in Maryland on January 16. He was subsequently extradited to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Also from the latest ACPD crime report, police have arrested suspects in a pair of weekend incidents: a violent retail robbery in the Buckingham neighborhood, and a robbery in the Courthouse area in which the suspect allegedly threatened employees with a baseball bat.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING/ROBBERY, 2026-01230236, 200 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 11:29 p.m. on January 23, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect allegedly entered the business, concealed merchandise and attempted to exit without payment when he was confronted by an employee. The suspect then struck the employee, causing them to fall to the ground. The employee sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect yielding negative results. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified and on January 24, he was located in the 300 block of N. Piedmont Street and was taken into custody. [The suspect], 34, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged Malicious Wounding and Robbery. He was held without bond.
ROBBERY, 2026-01250031, 1300 block of N. Courthouse Road. At approximately 7:34 a.m. on January 25, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined the female suspect, who was banned from the property during a separate incident, allegedly entered the business, consumed food items without payment and threatened employees with a baseball bat before fleeing the scene on foot. Responding officers located the suspect in the area and took her into custody. [The suspect], 38, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Robbery and Trespassing. She was held without bond.
During Sunday’s winter storm, meanwhile, police were dispatched to a Clarendon intersection for a report of a local government SUV that was stuck in the snow with the driver possibly intoxicated and injured.
An Arlington Public Schools employee was arrested and charged with DUI, local public safety watcher Dave Statter reported.
