JUST IN: Police on scene of unsuccessful bank robbery in Ballston

Arlington County police are investigating an attempted bank robbery in Ballston.

The robbery was reported around 3:30 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank at 1011 N. Stafford Street, near the Ballston Metro station.

The suspect passed a note to a teller but then fled without cash, ACPD said via social media.

The last reported bank robbery in Arlington was along Columbia Pike in February 2025. This past July, a man tried to rob a bank on N. Randolph Street in Ballston but also left empty-handed.

On Tuesday (Feb. 10), police released the following about the incident.

ATTEMPTED BANK ROBBERY, 2026-02090147, 1000 N. Stafford Street. At approximately 3:34 p.m. on February 9, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined at approximately 3:20 p.m., the suspect entered the bank, passed a note to the teller demanding money and implied he had a weapon. The suspect then fled the scene without any cash. Officers canvassed the area for the suspect with negative results. The suspect is described as a white male wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood up, black pants, gloves and carrying a backpack. The investigation is ongoing.
