Driver trapped after car flips in crash near East Falls Church Metro station

A trapped driver was pulled from a flipped car and taken to the hospital after a crash Wednesday afternoon near the East Falls Church Metro station.

First responders were dispatched around 3:15 p.m. for a report of crash involving one person stuck inside an overturned vehicle, at the intersection of Washington Blvd and N. Sycamore Street.

Firefighters stabilized the car, which had come to rest on its roof, before extricating the driver. They were taken via ambulance to Virginia Hospital Center for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.

Initial reports suggest the car flipped after being struck by a second vehicle.

A person who lives nearby told ARLnow that they “heard a series of loud crashes” and then saw “an enormous emergency response.”

“The driver of the flipped car reportedly was able to get into an ambulance on his own power,” the person said. “The second driver appeared physically fine but distraught.”

Washington Blvd was blocked for nearly an hour during the rescue operation and crash cleanup.
