Earlier: A portion of 10th Street N. remains closed between Route 50 and N. Cleveland Street due to a suspicious package.
Police were initially dispatched for a report of a man who drove up, placed a briefcase in the median, and drove off.
The briefcase appears to be located between the entrances to the Woodbury Park and Sheffield Court apartment complexes. That’s a few blocks from the Courthouse and Clarendon neighborhoods, and a short distance from Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
Traffic camera images show the road blocked by police. Bomb squad units are on scene, using a robot to inspect the briefcase. Police and firefighters are also staged nearby, blocking roads and ready to assist if needed.
UPDATE: Here's the bomb squad robot doing its bomb squad robot things around what appears to be a briefcase that has aroused suspicions after being left in the median of N. 10th Street between Barton and 50. The area remains blocked off. Video via https://t.co/AZ4aOpFb1k.… https://t.co/zOej8XW1K8 pic.twitter.com/ETJiaRJYDn
