ACPD: Intoxicated man fires shot in parking lot

A drunk Maryland man allegedly fired a gunshot in a parking lot along S. Four Mile Run Drive early Sunday morning.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. on the 4000 block, which has a gas station and a self-storage facility. Police say they found evidence of a shot being fired and arrested the suspect on scene.

SHOT FIRED, 2026-04260028, 4000 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive. At approximately 2:57 a.m. on April 26, police were dispatched to the report of drunk in public. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect allegedly made entry into the secured parking lot and discharged a firearm, causing property damage. No injuries were reported. Responding officers located the suspect at the scene and took him into custody. A firearm and evidence of a shot being fired was recovered from the scene. [The suspect], 33, of Laurel, Md., was arrested and charged with Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place, Destruction of Property, Trespassing, Public Intoxication and Carrying a Concealed Weapon While Under the Influence. He was held without bond.

Also in the crime report, an Arlington woman who previously pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and was sentenced to a year-and-a-half in prison is facing new charges.

ACPD alleges the woman tried to rob a store in Buckingham on Friday night, then had the police called on her again less than an hour later for acting disorderly in a Ballston residential building. The woman is also accused of spitting at an officer.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY/ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-04240178/2026-04240218, 300 block of N. Glebe Road/4200 block of Fairfax Drive. At approximately 7:14 p.m. on April 24, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined the female suspect entered the business and allegedly concealed merchandise. When the suspect was confronted by an employee, she threw the merchandise, shoved the employee and fled the scene on foot. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers conducted a canvass of the area for the suspect yielding negative results. At approximately 8:07 p.m., police were dispatched to the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive to the report of a disorderly subject in a residential building. Responding officers made contact with the female suspect, who matched the description of the suspect from the attempted robbery earlier in the evening, and took her into custody. While in custody, the suspect spat at an officer. During a search incident to arrest, drug paraphernalia was recovered. [The suspect], 38, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Public Intoxication and Attempted Robbery. She was held without bond.

In Friday’s crime report, meanwhile, a Gainesville man was arrested in the Virginia Square area after a patrol officer noticed an altered Vehicle Identification Number on his car. Drugs and a gun were recovered, according to ACPD.

WEAPONS VIOLATION, 2026-04230010, 900 block of N. Jackson Street. At approximately 12:57 a.m. on April 23, an officer was conducting extra checks in the area when he observed an unoccupied vehicle parked on the sidewalk and, upon investigating, determined the vehicle was displaying an altered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and had been reported stolen. A short time later, the male suspect returned to the vehicle and the officer took the suspect into custody. During the course of the investigation, a firearm and suspected narcotics were recovered. [The suspect], 26, of Gainesville, Va., was arrested and charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, Possession of a Firearm While in Possession of Drugs, Possession of a Vehicle with an Altered Serial Number and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. He was held without bond.
