Pizza party leads to active shooter scare at Rosslyn office building

An office birthday party briefly prompted a massive police response after a 911 caller confused revelry for gunfire.

Police were dispatched to a report of an active shooter on the first floor of an office building on N. Kent Street in Rosslyn around 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday).

A dispatcher told officers that screaming and multiple gunshots were heard. All available police officers in Arlington County were sent rushing to the scene.

Thankfully, things were not as they first seemed.

The screaming was apparently from an office birthday party, and the “gunshots” were actually confetti poppers, according to scanner traffic. Pizza was being served as officers dashed in.

All officers soon returned to their patrols and other calls.
