Sinkhole blocks road for days in Pentagon City

A sinkhole has been blocking a small stretch of road in Pentagon City for the last several days.

A portion of 13th Street S. between Costco and Metropolitan Park has been cordoned off since last week, with a traffic barrel sitting in the middle of the hole as of yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

“This sinkhole is located on private property; therefore the property owner is responsible for the repair,” Katie O’Brien, spokesperson for Arlington’s Department of Environmental Services, told ARLnow.

O’Brien said the county contacted the owner, The Millennium at National Landing, last Wednesday, May 20.

A tipster told ARLnow that they noticed the traffic barrel on top of the hole, located just east of S. Fern Street, on Friday, and it sank several feet between then and Sunday morning.

A representative for the apartment building declined to comment on when the hole will be repaired.
