Police search for hours but find no evidence of shooting after gunshots heard

Numerous officers and a police helicopter searched the area around Glencarlyn Park early Monday morning after reports of gunshots being heard.

Despite the search, “there was no evidence recovered of shots being fired,” Arlington County police said today in a crime report.

ACPD received multiple calls around 3:15 a.m., reporting the sound of just under a dozen apparent gunshots, according to scanner traffic. A Pentagon police officer at a gas station a distance away also reported hearing the gunfire.

After a search that included the discovery of a potential blood trail — apparently unrelated — units went back onto other calls around 5:30 a.m.

“Responding officers established a perimeter and canvassed the area for victims and property damage with the assistance of a police helicopter, yielding negative results,” ACPD said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
