Arlington added a company to the Fortune 500 this year, bringing to four the number of the nation’s 500 largest public companies headquartered in the county.
Liquefied natural gas company Venture Global debuted at No. 328 on the 2026 list, which Fortune released Wednesday morning. The Arlington-based firm, public since early 2025, reported $13.8 billion in revenue, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Boeing was among the list’s biggest movers, climbing 16 spots to No. 47 on the strength of a 35% jump in revenue, to $89.5 billion. The aerospace and defense giant keeps its global headquarters in Arlington, though it moved its defense headquarters to St. Louis earlier this year.
Arlington’s two other Fortune 500 members are defense contractor RTX, at No. 49 with $88.6 billion in revenue, and power company AES, at No. 358 with $12.2 billion. AES, which fell 15 spots, is likely making its final appearance on the list: it is being acquired by a consortium led by BlackRock and taken private, the Business Journal noted.
Seattle-based Amazon, which has its HQ2 in Pentagon City, claimed the No. 1 spot overall, with $717 billion in revenue, ending Walmart’s 13-year run as the country’s largest public company.
Arlington’s four companies put it near the front of the regional pack. The 2026 list includes 20 companies across Greater Washington — three in D.C. (Fannie Mae, Danaher and Xylem), two in Bethesda (Lockheed Martin and Marriott) and one in Loudoun County (Ashburn’s DXC Technology).
Fairfax County dominates, with 10 companies, clustered in McLean (Freddie Mac, Capital One, Hilton and Booz Allen), Reston (General Dynamics, Leidos, NVR and CACI), Chantilly (Amentum) and Falls Church (Northrop Grumman).
Within Arlington, three of the four companies are based along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor, while the other is in the Crystal City area.
