A 37-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly knifing a woman who was walking her dog in Ballston.
The incident happened just after 5 a.m. Wednesday on the 4000 block of Fairfax Drive, about a block from Arlington Central Library.
The man was following the woman, who confronted him, leading to the suspect displaying a knife and stabbing her with it, according to the latest Arlington County Police Department crime report.
Police say the victim’s wound was minor and she only required treatment on scene.

ATTEMPTED MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2026-06030019, 4000 block of Fairfax Drive. At approximately 5:07 a.m. on June 3, police were dispatched to the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, it was determined the female victim was walking in the area when she observed the male suspect following her. The victim confronted the suspect, who allegedly displayed a knife and struck the victim with it, resulting in a laceration, before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated and released on scene by medics. Responding officers canvassed the area and located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the 3500 block of Fairfax Drive and took him into custody and a knife was recovered. [The suspect], 37, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Attempted Malicious Wounding and Assault and Battery.
Around the same time, a few blocks away in Virginia Square, police responded to an unusual incident at the 7-Eleven on the 3500 block of Wilson Blvd.
“At approximately 5:14 a.m. on June 3, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny,” said the crime report. “Upon arrival, it was determined the female suspect entered the business, began acting disorderly and eating food items without payment before exposing herself. Responding officers located the suspect on scene and took her into custody.”
The 46-year-old woman — from a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas — faces charges of Indecent Exposure, Disorderly Conduct and Shoplifting.
