Il Radicchio has been making progress on reopening at its new location in Clarendon.
The family-owned Italian restaurant is in the process of relocating from its longtime location at 1801 Clarendon Blvd, which closed in late May, to the former home of Mazaro at 2909 Wilson Blvd.
Video posted on social media showed the new location open and serving its first diners earlier this month, and it appears to be accepting online orders. However, a sign in the window still says it is “temporarily closed” and the restaurant wasn’t open during normal hours yesterday evening (Tuesday).
Mazaro signage is still up.
Open since 1994, Il Radicchio serves pasta dishes such as gnocchi with sausage, arugula and roasted pine nuts; penne with sauteed chicken, spinach, tomato and goat cheese; and linguine with chicken scallopini, broccolini and mushroom ragu in a marsala wine sauce.
Other options include wood-fired pizzas, small plates such as fried burrata and avocado bruschetta, and “specialita” including lasagna, artichoke ravioli and grilled salmon with tomato and basil.
It also offers a selection of wines, along with a cocktail menu offering aperol spritz, a limoncello martini and an “Italian margarita” with tequila, amaretto, lime and agave.
Il Radicchio left its former location amid redevelopment plans on a one-acre site that was also home to Rhodeside Grill. The building was still standing as of yesterday, but it’s expected to be demolished to make way for an eight-story, 188-unit apartment building with 12,000-square-feet of ground floor retail.
Il Radicchio’s new location had been home to Mazaro, another Italian restaurant, since September 2020. Before that, it was Alto Fumo, another destination for pizza, pasta and drinks.
