Two cookie shops in Clarendon and Shirlington have shuttered amid closures of Chip City locations nationwide.
The New York-based cookie purveyor no longer lists any of its three Virginia locations on its website. No signage indicating the closures is up at 2700 Clarendon Blvd or 4014 Campbell Avenue, but the sites are listed as “permanently closed” on Google and multiple tipsters have contacted ARLnow about what they say was a sudden change.
“Yesterday, while on my off day I received a phone call that at end of business the Shirlington location would be closed permanently,” a Reddit user posted on Monday, Sept. 21. “I called the other two managers at other stores in our district and all of the Virginia locations are gone.”
The company was known for its gooey, 5.5-ounce cookies and rotating menu of flavors, which ranged from chocolate chip and triple chocolate to cannoli and horchata.
Chip City also appears to have closed all locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The company’s website currently lists a total of 24 locations in New Jersey, New York and Texas, compared to 39 spots across six states back in June, according to archived materials on the Internet Archive.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
While the county’s Chip City locations have closed, another local cookie destination is seeking to fill the void. The owners of MidnighTreats in Ballston Quarter have promised to honor Chip City gift cards and coupons through Oct. 14 and are encouraging former Chip City employees to apply for open roles at their location at 4238 Wilson Blvd.
Both of Arlington’s Chip City spots opened in early 2024, while the company’s other Virginia location in Tysons opened in August 2025.
