In Arlington, goldendoodles are top dog.
That’s according to a new ranking from Rover, which found that the curly-haired mix between a poodle and a golden retriever was the most popular dog in the county.
The next most popular breeds in Arlington, by volume, were golden retrievers, followed by a breed suited for many apartment buildings: Yorkshire terriers.
“Trending” breeds in Arlington, meanwhile, include the basenji (a breed of African hunting dog known for its inability to bark), the clumber spaniel and the Irish terrier, a spokesperson told ARLnow.
Combined data from Rover and Redfin also ranked Arlington as the No. 14 “city” in the nation for dog walking. Arlington was the only Northern Virginia locality included in the ranking.
In D.C., which ranked No. 6 for dog walking, the most popular dog breed is the Labrador retriever.
“Being able to exercise your dog without getting in a car is valuable, and it’s an important amenity for many homebuyers,” said Redfin Principal Economist Sheharyar Bokhari. “Walking your dog around the block and in nearby parks can help make your house feel more like home, and help make your neighborhood feel more like a community.”
Goldendoodles were the most popular breed in 46 of 107 localities included on the list.
The three best cities for dog walking, according to the ranking, are San Francisco, New York City and Jersey City.
