County Board to host another town hall discussion later this month

The Arlington County Board is hosting a second town hall meeting later this month, opening the floor for discussion on topics that aren’t included on recent or upcoming agendas.

Board members plan to use the meeting, scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., to see what tweaks, if any, could be made going forward in 2027.

“We’ll kind of refine the format,” County Board member Susan Cunningham told ARLnow.

“The idea is to see if we can improve,” her colleague Takis Karantonis said.

Board members announced the town hall series at the start of 2026 to provide a public forum outside monthly Board meetings.

The first town hall, held May 4, drew about 90 minutes of public speakers followed by 30 minutes of responses from Board members.

The meeting represented “a good start,” Cunningham said.

Karantonis largely agreed.

“Is it improvable? Absolutely,” Karantonis said, adding that he felt it went “far better” than some anticipated.

Speakers are limited to two minutes, but unlike during public-comment sessions that start County Board meetings, there is no one-speaker-per-topic rule that has long chafed some residents.

Online registration for the town hall begins Monday, Oct. 19. Participation for the two-hour session will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
