Pool hall coming to former Silver Diner in Clarendon

A new pool hall is coming to Clarendon.

Billiards, Bites and Beverages is expected to open at 3200 Wilson Blvd, the distinctive former site of the neighborhood’s Silver Diner location, according to permits.

Inside the building are nine pool tables and not much else, based on what can be seen from peering in the windows. The chrome facade of the former Silver Diner remains, following its move to Ballston, though the old restaurant’s signage has been removed.

Based on the name, it is expected that food and drink will be available. As of Thursday, however, no liquor license had been applied for, according to Virginia ABC.

Billiards, Bites and Beverages will join a handful of other pool halls in Arlington, including Clarendon neighbor Spider Kelly’s. Popular spots CarPool and Continental Pool Lounge are located in Ballston and Rosslyn, respectively.

It is unclear how long the pool hall will stick around as the 81,000-square-foot space between Wilson Blvd and N. Irving Street — which also includes Arlington Beer Garden, formerly The Lot — was the target of redevelopment efforts last year.

Updated plans to construct a new development that would feature a 290-unit apartment building and a hotel were approved by the Arlington County Board last August. Delays have pushed the project back, with no timetable being made public.

The owner of a neighboring business that would be redeveloped under the project told ARLnow in March that he had come to an “understanding” that it may take a few years before the project gets underway.

A request for comment sent to the pool hall’s owner went unanswered by publication time.
