Fire Works Pizza in Courthouse is partnering with a D.C. area blood donor service to host a blood drive next week.
People who donate blood to Inova Blood Donor Services from 12:30-4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, will receive $5 off any menu item at the pizzeria. Appointments will take place in Inova’s Bloodmobile, which will be parked outside the restaurant at 2350 Clarendon Blvd.
Participants should schedule out an hour for the appointment and bring a valid form of photo identification in order to give blood.
Based in Sterling, Inova Blood Donor Services distributes blood and related supplies to 24 hospitals across Northern Virginia and the D.C. area.
The blood drive is scheduled as the American Red Cross announced a national emergency blood shortage earlier this month, due to heat and other “seasonal obstacles” affecting blood drives nationwide.
“Since July 1, the Red Cross national blood supply has fallen by more than 25%, and blood donors of all types, especially those with type O blood, are urged to give as soon as possible to help patients receive lifesaving medical care,” according to the organization.
Blood donor appointments can be booked in advance on the Inova website.
