Car crashes into CarPool in Ballston

A driver crashed into the front of a Ballston bar early this morning (Wednesday), shattering two of its storefront windows, a manager said.

CarPool at 900 N. Glebe Road was partially blocked off with police tape this morning, and employees were seen assessing the damage.

“We were lucky — I guess they just broke two windows,” manager Dermot Rourke told ARLnow. “We’ll board it up today. Unfortunately some of the glass is probably custom.”

The driver crashed into the windows of the longtime local watering hole around 4 a.m. Wednesday after possibly falling asleep at the wheel, Rourke said. Black tire marks are visible on the pavement nearby.

Though repairs may take a couple weeks, Rourke said CarPool will remain open for business.

The bar opened on Glebe Road in 2021 after a four-year hiatus from Ballston. Its original location at 4000 Fairfax Drive closed in 2017, and the bar spent four years in Fairfax.

The Arlington County Police Department did not have any additional information about the crash as of publication time.
