A man initially stopped for fare evasion at the Pentagon City Metro station is now facing a series of charges, including assault on police.
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon and involved an officer deployed to the area as part of a retail crime crackdown.
According to Arlington County police, the man had a knife visible in his waistband when he was stopped for fare evasion. He then resisted arrest and spat on officers after being taken into custody, police said
The man, 45, is facing drug charges and three counts of assault on police, among other charges. More, below, from an ACPD crime report.
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2024-12110118, 1200 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 3:47 p.m. on December 11, an officer working a crime prevention detail at the Pentagon City Metro Station stopped the male suspect for fare evasion. The suspect began acting disorderly and had a knife visible in his waistband. The officers then attempted to detain him during which the suspect refused to comply with commands and resisted arrest. With the assistance of additional officers in the area, the suspect was taken into custody. While in custody, the suspect kicked and spat on three officers. No injuries were reported. During the course of the investigation, a knife and suspected narcotics were recovered. [The suspect], 45, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Assault on Police (x3), Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance (x2), Obstruction of Justice and Fare Evasion.
The arrest follows Monday evening’s fatal police shooting of an allegedly knife-wielding man who resisted being taken into custody at the Rosslyn Metro station.
