A fire in a small apartment building near Columbia Pike might have been intentionally set.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 15. Firefighters rescued several people using ladders as the fire burned in a stairwell of the garden apartment building.
At least five people were evaluated by medics and two were taken to a local hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
In a statement issued to ARLnow earlier this week, the Arlington County Fire Department said the fire is “suspicious” and remains under investigation.
“The Arlington County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred on May 15, 2025, at 1020 South Quebec Street in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood,” the statement said. “The fire originated in a stairwell landing of a garden-style apartment building. This remains an active investigation.”
“Anyone with information related to this fire is encouraged to contact Lieutenant Ryan Murphy at [email protected],” ACFD added.
