One More Page Books kicks off indie bookstore crawl with giveaways this weekend

Raffles, free books and other giveaways are coming to an East Falls Church bookstore this weekend in honor of Independent Bookstore Day.

One More Page Books is bringing back its annual festivities from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. this Saturday at 2200 N. Westmoreland Street. The day also kicks off the bookstore’s participation in the third annual NoVa + Indie Bookstore Crawl, which includes 18 stores around the region.

Starting Saturday, crawl participants can pick up a “passport” at any featured bookstore and earn stamps by visiting the stores, which are spread across Northern Virginia and also include two booksellers in Frederick, Md., and Wardensville, W. Va.

“Once they have visited 4 stores, they can collect a book prize,” One More Page Books said in a release. “Those who visit 8 stores earn a tote bag. Readers who visit at least 10 of the participating stores by May 31st will be entered to win the Grand Prize which includes items for all participating stores.”

This year’s participating bookstores are listed below.

The shop will also have some “silver tickets” to find for other “bookish prizes,” according to the release.

The American Booksellers Association established Independent Bookstore Day in 2013 “to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the independent bookstore community.” One More Page is expected to be one of more than 1,600 stores nationwide to participate.

This is One More Page Books’ 15th year in the Arlington community.

Founder Eileen McGervey opened the store in January 2011 following a 20-year career in tech. Since then, the bookstore has fostered all kinds of community events, from author discussions and book signings to an annual small business passport program during the winter holiday season.

Other upcoming events this spring include a Queer Book Club meeting on Wednesday, April 29, and an author discussion with Sarah Glenn Marsh on Thursday, April 30, followed by Jenn’s Fiction Book Club on Wednesday, May 6.
