Student struck by pickup truck near Washington-Liberty High School

A student suffered a serious leg injury after being struck by the driver of a pickup truck near Washington-Liberty High School this morning.

The crash happened just after 8 a.m., near the intersection of N. Quincy Street and 14th Street. The circumstances of the crash are unclear but the student was quickly taken via ambulance to the trauma center at Virginia Hospital Center.

Quincy Street was briefly closed to northbound traffic during the emergency response.

W-L principal Alexander Duncan, III, sent the following email to families about the incident.

Dear W-L Students, Families and Friends,

I wanted to make you aware of an incident that occurred this morning involving a Washington-Liberty student. [… A] student riding a bicycle to school was struck by a pickup truck near the corner of Quincy Street and 14th Street. Arlington County emergency responders and the Washington-Liberty school nurse responded immediately, and the student’s parent arrived at the scene shortly afterward.

Arlington County Police are investigating the incident while emergency medical personnel attended to the student’s non-life threatening injuries. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We understand news like this may be upsetting for some students and staff. School counselors and support staff are available throughout the day for any students who may need support or someone to talk with.
