Several thousand without power in Arlington after storms

Update at 10:50 p.m. — The outage count in Arlington is up to 4,266 homes and businesses, according to Dominion’s website. In addition to outages in neighborhoods near Crystal City, another large outage is being reported northwest of Ballston, around Virginia Hospital Center and the High View Park neighborhood.

Earlier: The severe storms that blew through less than an hour ago have knocked out power for thousands in and around Arlington.

Some 3,640 homes and businesses are without power in Arlington County as of 9 a.m., according to Dominion Energy. Nearly 300 are also in the dark in the City of Falls Church, according to the utility company’s website.

Most of the Arlington outages — about 2,000 Dominion customers — are in the Aurora Highlands and Long Branch Creek neighborhoods near Crystal City. So far, there is no estimated restoration time.

In all, Dominion is reporting more than 55,000 customers in the dark throughout Northern Virginia following the storms.
