Drivers who speed through five Arlington school zones this summer can still expect a $100 ticket.
The county’s PhotoSPEED speed cameras at those locations will stay on through Arlington Public Schools’ summer session, which runs July 6 through 31, police said.
The cameras issue tickets only when the school-zone beacons are flashing during student arrival and dismissal, with the civil fine going to the registered owner of the speeding vehicle.
The cameras set to remain active are at:
- Southbound Unit block of S. Carlin Springs Road
- Eastbound 3500 block of 2nd Street S.
- Southbound 1900 block of S. George Mason Drive
- Northbound 1900 block of S. George Mason Drive
- Northbound 1600 block of N. Veitch Street
The devices are part of Arlington’s Automated Safety Enforcement Program, which began ticketing in school zones in September 2024 and has expanded since. As of early last year, the program had led to more than 7,000 tickets.
PhotoSPEED also supports Arlington’s Vision Zero campaign, now in its fifth year, which aims to eliminate serious crashes and traffic deaths in the county by 2030.
