A few short miles away from the White House, many voters in Courthouse, Ballston and Shirlington pulled from personal experiences as they discussed how a change in the nation’s leadership might affect their lives.

A new Caribbean fusion restaurant has popped up in the former space of Family Kabob House on Columbia Pike.

Soca Fusion, which blends Caribbean cuisine with Indian, Pakistani and Mediterranean influences, debuted last month at 3205 Columbia Pike.

An all-you-can-eat hot pot and Korean barbecue spot aims to open in Ballston early next year.

Construction work on Top Pot is underway on the ground floor of the Ballston Quarter mall (671 N. Glebe Road). The restaurant expects to open by early February in a 7,600-square-foot space between Mezeh and Chick-fil-A, Marketing Director Matthew Hall told ARLnow.

Outdoor ice skating is back at the Westpost shopping center in Pentagon City.

The outdoor ice rink at 1201 S. Joyce Street announced yesterday that it has returned for the 2024-2025 season, offering lessons and public skating hours seven days a week. That’s despite predicted high temperatures in the 60s, 70s and — today — 80s over the next ten days.

A bank and a Thai restaurant are the latest planned additions to a Falls Church development project’s retail scene.

Chase Bank and Dok Khao Thai Eatery are expected to join the West Falls development project in April and August 2025, developer Hoffman & Associates announced this month.

Arlington’s first outpost of a popular D.C.-area pizza chain is expected to land in Virginia Square this winter.

Construction is underway on Andy’s Pizza at 901 N. Pollard Street, formerly home to Ballston Place Gourmet. The restaurant, which has been in the works since at least July 2023, hopes to open in December or January, employees told ARLnow.

The underground Dunkin’ over the Crystal City Metro station has closed.

“At this time, I don’t have any information on whether this is a temporary or permanent closure,” Dunkin’ spokesperson Hannah Goldstein told ARLnow in reference to the location at 1687 Crystal Square Arcade.

Following the Crystal City Underground’s closure, a longtime women’s boutique will relocate to a larger nearby space this weekend.

Crystal Boutique’s last day at 2100 Crystal Drive is Saturday. The shop first opened in 1970, focusing on evening wear and other garments for “mature and older women,” owner Joel Cohen told ARLnow.

A donation drive for people affected by Hurricane Helene is taking place in Arlington this week.

From noon to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) and Friday, the county’s four public safety agencies are collecting supplies for North Carolina residents impacted by the storm’s destruction.
