A 34-year-old Arlington man is behind bars and facing numerous charges after police say he injured half a dozen officers and a police dog.

Oleh Mashkin entered a condo building on Columbia Pike around 6 p.m. Friday, shoved someone out of an elevator, and then kicked down the door of an unoccupied apartment, according to Arlington County police.

Arlington County police are investigating a man’s death in the Buckingham neighborhood, but so far there’s no indication of foul play.

Police and medics were dispatched to a parking lot on the 4200 block of 2nd Road N., near the intersection with N. Thomas Street, around 7:45 a.m. today (Friday) for a report of a man in his 30s believed to be sleeping in a green Cadillac.

Arlington’s surge in property crime during and after the pandemic was the highest in the country by one measure, exceeding large increases in other urban areas.

Between 2020 and 2024, crimes against property — including larceny, vandalism and motor vehicle theft — increased by 60.5% in Arlington, home security company Vivint reported yesterday (Wednesday). The next-highest increase among studied localities was in Chicago (up 56.2%) followed by New York City (up 54.7%).

An Arlington probation officer warned a judge last year that a local man — now charged with attempted rape — was on the verge of a slippery slope of increasing violent crime.

Luzvin Orvando Garcia Moran, whose arrest has also caught the attention of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) because of his immigration status, remains in jail following a violent attack in Clarendon.

A 28-year-old Arlington man has been arrested and charged with attempted rape after allegedly assaulting a woman who was waiting for a rideshare in Clarendon over the weekend.

Luzvin Garcia Moran is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility on charges of attempted rape, abduction with intent to defile and assault and battery, according to ACPD.

An Arlington man faces up to life in prison after he admitted to stabbing his daughter and his wife in a psychosis-related episode in Pentagon City.

Leonardo Antonio Reyes, now 24, has pleaded guilty in Arlington County Circuit Court to one count each of second-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding, both stemming from a Dec. 14, 2024 incident.

Police were dispatched to Crisp and Juicy, a long-time Peruvian chicken eatery in the Lee Heights Shops on Cherry Hill Road, around 4:30 p.m. for a report of man jumping behind the counter and trying to steal sausage, according to scanner traffic.

A 26-year-old has been arrested after allegedly providing fentanyl to a man in Penrose, inadvertently causing his death.

Angel Delcid, of Alexandria, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter through the distribution of fentanyl — one of the first instances of the charge being levied in Arlington after Virginia’s criminal code was updated last year.

A man was charged with robbery and carjacking after a shoplifting attempt turned violent at a business in Cherrydale yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

Police were dispatched to the 4000 block of Langston Blvd around 2:30 p.m. after a report of a larceny, according to the Arlington County Police Department.
