A 23-year-old man is accused of using an air pistol to shoot people and vehicles from inside a South Arlington apartment early yesterday morning (Thursday).

The Arlington County Police Department was dispatched around 4:40 a.m. to a report of a shooting just off of Columbia Pike, in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, according to a press release. They arrived to find two men who had been struck by projectiles, suffering “minor injuries.”

The starting salary for officers at the Arlington County Police Department is jumping to about $90,000, the highest in the D.C. area.

The pay bump, which goes into effect on July 1, 2026, represents a roughly $18,000 increase from the current starting salary of $72,013.50 for new officers, ACPD spokesperson Ashley Savage told ARLnow.

A 19-year-old from the Richmond area has been accused of making a bomb threat against Yorktown High School in September.

Alexander Blake Berg was arrested last month and charged with two felonies over the September threat, which didn’t close the school but did result in an increased police presence on campus.

Arlington County police are looking for a trio of teens who allegedly stole from a toy store and struck a man who tried to intervene with their car.

The theft happened Saturday afternoon at Child’s Play Toys in the Lee Heights Shopping Center on Cherry Hill Road.

A 21-year-old man is behind bars after police say he robbed the same tobacco shop in Virginia Square multiple times.

Arlington County police made the announcement early Thursday afternoon. Police say the suspect robbed the store — understood to be the Tobacco Hut at 3528 Wilson Blvd — and stabbed an employee last month, resulting in serious injuries.

Arlington County police are investigating another series of airbag thefts.

The thefts were reported Tuesday morning on the 2000 block of S. Eads Street in Crystal City. Police say the suspect — or suspects — smashed windows on six parked Hondas overnight and stole the vehicles’ airbags.

A pair of notable crashes Sunday morning temporarily closed lanes and kept Arlington first responders busy.

The crashes happened amid preparation for, and then during, the 2025 Marine Corps Marathon, which closed numerous roads in other parts of the county.

A 32-year-old man is facing charges after police say he made threats while wielding a boxcutter in a Metro station over the weekend.

It happened just before 7 a.m. Saturday at the Ballston Metro station. Police say they were dispatched after reports that a man was “throwing items at people” in the station. The man allegedly threatened an arriving officer while holding a boxcutter, leading to a taser being used to subdue him.

All northbound lanes of N. Glebe Road were temporarily blocked at N. Carlin Springs Road after a pedestrian was reportedly struck near the entrance to the Ballston mall parking garage.

The incident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Initial reports suggest that a person in a wheelchair was struck by a driver and suffered facial injuries.

Update 2/20/26: The felony charge has been dropped, but the driver was found guilty of two misdemeanors: assault and battery and property damage under $1,000. He has received a suspended six-month sentence.

A 58-year-old Arlington man is in jail after police say he purposely struck a bicyclist with his car following an argument.

While a debate among the candidates for Virginia Attorney General focused on violent rhetoric, a debate watch party in Arlington descended into physical violence.

Police were called to Mister Days on N. Highland Street around 6:45 p.m. Thursday after a fight broke out at the debate watch party held by the Arlington County Republican Committee. A video posted online, which includes explicit language, shows a man being restrained and ordered to leave the restaurant while a female companion records the incident and is later also ordered to leave.

Arlington County police are investigating shots fired in the Green Valley neighborhood.

The gunfire rang out around 10 p.m. Friday night near The Shelton apartment complex. No injuries were reported but a bullet damaged a window in a nearby residential building.
