A teen boy is facing charges after police say he robbed a tow truck driver of his phone during a fight.
The incident happened early Wednesday morning on 12th Street S. at S. Courthouse Road, near Columbia Pike. Police say a verbal dispute led to an physical alternation and, ultimately, the robbery.
What led to the dispute was not specified.

ROBBERY, 2026-05060014, 12th Street S. at S. Courthouse Road. At approximately 12:59 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim, who was operating as a tow truck driver at the time of the incident, and the juvenile male suspect in his late teens became involved in a verbal dispute. The dispute then escalated to a physical altercation during which the suspect allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone and fled the scene on foot. The victim and suspect sustained minor injuries. Responding officers canvassed the area and located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the 1200 block of S. Courthouse Road and took him into custody. The victim’s cellphone was recovered and petitions for the suspect were sought for Robbery.
In an earlier crime report, meanwhile, police detailed a shoplifting incident in Pentagon City that led to an arrest and the alleged assault of a police officer.

ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-05040237, 1200 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 8:32 p.m. on May 4, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect entered the business, concealed merchandise and exited the store without payment. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers located the suspect near the scene and issued commands which the suspect ignored. As officers were taking the suspect into custody, the suspect resisted arrest and struck an officer. The suspect was subsequently taken into the custody with the assistance of additional responding officers. The officer sustained minor injuries. During the course of the investigation, the suspect provided false identifying information to officers and during a search incident to arrest, suspected narcotics and burglarious tools were recovered. During a secondary search of the suspect in booking, additional suspected narcotics were recovered. [The suspect], 24, of Fort Washington, Md., was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Obstruction of Justice, Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, Identity Theft, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Delivery of Drugs to Prisoners and Shoplifting. He was held without bond.
