The sewage release was the result of a blocked 12 inch sewage pipe, in the area between the Dominion Plaza Apartments (1200 S. Courthouse Road) and the Arlington Village Condominiums (1400 S. Barton Street), near Columbia Pike.
Crews have successfully cleared the blockage and stopped the flow of raw sewage into Arlington Branch, according to the Arlington Department of Environmental Services.
Update at 3:45 p.m. — Police are reporting high standing water on eastbound Route 50 in the area of Courthouse.
Update at 3:30 p.m. — Dominion is reporting only 93 customers without power in Arlington at this time.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, in effect until 10:15 p.m.
This storm is capable of producing strong winds up to 60 miles per hourr.
(Updated at 5:20 p.m.) The National Weather Service has upgraded the previous storm watch to a warning. The warning is now effect until 5:45 p.m.
This is a strong storm that has the potential to bring damaging winds of 60 miles per hour and large hail.
An “Excessive Heat Watch” has been issued for Friday as the region braces for a sweltering weekend.
Forecasters are warning of a “prolonged period of hot temperatures” and humidity which will “create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
(Updated at 2:50 p.m.) A strong thunderstorm may be heading in our direction over the next 45 minutes. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, urging residents to stay alert and seek shelter if necessary.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
Arlington County will be testing its outdoor warning system at 10:00 tomorrow morning, according to the Arlington Office of Emergency Management.
The warning system — those sirens you might hear once in a while — was last tested in May.
