Flash Mob Outside Clarendon Metro Station

by ARLnow.com — May 23, 2011 at 9:01 am 5,804 17 Comments

It’s not every day that a group of belly dancers spontaneously shows up outside a Metro station and starts performing for onlookers. But that’s exactly what happened Friday night when dancers from the Saffron Dance belly dancing school in Clarendon (3260 Wilson Blvd) organized their very own flash mob.

The ‘official’ video of the performance is above.

While some flash mobs have been greeted with looks of abject confusion from bystanders, Clarendonites seemed to know the drill — they took out their cell phones and cameras and started recording the encounter.

“All had a great time and there were no arrests,” the video’s YouTube page notes.

      +1.

I’m not much into the whole flash-mob thing but I do love having Saffron Dance in the neighborhood. Not that this dude does much belly dancing. Belly flopping maybe.

    I can’t resist:

Everybody, get on the floor, let’s dance
Don’t fight your feelings, give yourself a chance

Shake shake shake, shake shake shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake shake shake, shake shake shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty

You can, you can do it very well
You’re the best in the world, I can tell

Oh, shake shake shake, shake shake shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake shake shake, shake shake shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
    Shake shake, shake shake

    Shake shake, shake shake
Shake shake shake, shake shake shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake shake shake, shake shake shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty

Shake shake, shake shake, shake your booty
    Don’t fight the feeling
Shake shake, shake shake, shake your booty
    Give yourself a chance
Shake shake, shake shake, shake your booty
You can do it, do it

Shake shake, shake shake, shake your booty
    Come home with momma now
Shake shake, shake shake, shake your booty
Shake shake, shake shake, shake your booty
    Run down to sister

    Shake shake, come on
    Shake shake, come on
    Your booty, do your duty
    Shake shake, come on
    Shake shake, come on

Very impressive, Ladies. One question…. don’t belly dancers have a standard belly dancing outfit they should be wearing while performing?

  • Steve

Well, I suppose there are worse ways people could be trying to get attention. Society is falling down, rock bottom self esteem leads to attention seeking behavior. Could be a lot worse.

  • JW

This is a flash mob like a guy standing outside Chik-Fil-A in a cow suit is a flash mob.

    • PhilL

Heh, or the Statue(s) of Liberty along Rockville Pike.

  • KL

I think it was cool and they did a great job!

    • PhilL

Would have been cooler if they took the “flash” part more literally. So much potential.

  • Ryan

This was the lamest thing I’ve ever seen. It was not spontaneous at all…people were standing around in belly dancing outfits for about 30 mins before it started and more and more people showed up. Flash mobs couldn’t possibly be any dumber.

  • meh..

Yet another example of why Clarendonites are perhaps THE most annoying community of people on the planet……

  • Jerome Smiff

Great….now the County Board will spend countless hours and taxpayer dollars, not to mention lawsuits to ban this type of outragous public demonstration. Hope you picked up on my sarcasm because I was laying it down pretty thick!
