A Midlothian, Va.-based coffee shop/wine bar/soup-salad-and-sandwich restaurant is coming to the Arlington Ridge Shopping Center (2901 South Glebe Road).
Interior construction is underway on Cafe Caturra, located in a storefront once occupied by a Blockbuster video store. The store’s arrival coincides with a pedestrian-oriented renovation of the 85,000 square foot shopping center, which is anchored by a Giant supermarket.
Founded in 2005, Cafe Caturra offers specialty coffees and boutique wines to drink, as well as breakfast sandwiches, soups, salads, paninis, mini pizzas and other fresh fare to eat. The growing chain currently has five locations in Virginia and North Carolina. This will be the company’s first D.C.-area restaurant.
No word yet on an opening date.

Excellent. BTW, I love the remodeling look of that strip.
I never could understand how that strip avoided having a Starbucks or something similar in it.
So weird. I drove by there just yesterday and wondered to myself if they were ever going to find something to fill the old Blockbuster space. This could be interesting if you can find any parking. The Gold’s gym-goers take up a large part of that side of the parking lot.
Just park more towards the Giant.
Finally! I was really excited to see the facelift and renovations as I am at the Giant / Gold’s a few times a week.
Anyone ever been to El Cuscatleco? I remember it looking pretty seedy form the outside before but have noticed more and more people of all stripes going in and out recently.
It’s a good one. Wish the interior were brighter and the exterior more inviting, but the food is the real deal.
I’ve been wondering myself if anything would ever move in there because it looks so nice. Definitely intrigued.
Looks yummy. I am there!
Will they have beer or just wine?
Beer and wine @ Cafe Caturra is a yes.
Strange–Arlington Diner already in that “mall” with same type menu.
Arlington Diner serves wine and panini’s? I had no idea. Thanks for the tip AuroraMom.
YAY. The employees at the vet’s office nearby will have a fun place to eat. Good for them – they work very hard and deserve a nice break
YES! I am from Richmond and I LOVE Cafe Caturra. Coffee and wine in the same store– I am a big fan. I am certain it will be a hit in the neighborhood.
In what way was the renovation pedestrian oriented?
It seemed like they just put a fresh facade up (which looks way better by the way). It’s still got the same parking lot and sidewalks that were always there.
Nice renovation by a good national owner. But, when does Rinadi’s reopen?
Thanks! I wonder how many folks reading this even know what you are talking about!
I always loved the “Nick” Rinaldi Lanes sign on the front.
Many, many frames bowled there. They were the last one to go too. There used to be five or six bowling alleys in Arlington.

Cafe Catbox is a better name.
