Matuba Restaurant Reincarnated As Maruko Restaurant

Despite reports to the contrary, Matuba Japanese Restaurant on Columbia Pike never actually closed. It did, however, change its name about three weeks ago.

The 30-year-old sushi restaurant is now known as Maruko Japanese Restaurant. The name changed when a new owner took over. Everything else remained the same, including the employees, the decor, the menu and even the prices.

One thing that is changing is the sign outside. It has been temporarily painted white while they wait for a new sign to be delivered.

Matuba was a real hidden gem. Affordable, tasty sushi with very friendly service. I’m glad they kept the staff, they are the real highlight of every meal there.

I was there last night and the sushi is as good as ever. Let’s hope the new owner keeps up the excellent reputation.

It would be great if they reinstituted the grill menu. That used to be one of our favorite aspects of Matuba; so much so, that we quit going when they discontinued it.

I went to Matuba Japanese Restaurant yesterday. New street sign “Maruko Japanese Restaurant” is up. I met my year long sushi chiefs and waitress. Menu, price, food quality remain the same. I was told that old owner has just retired over 30 years, but new owner promise to keep everything as the same. I have loved to go this place with food freshness and familiar service.
