Arlington Officials to Discuss Secure Communities with ICE

Arlington County Manager Barbara Donnellan and her staff will meet with officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday to discuss the county’s desire to opt-out of the Secure Communities program.

The Sun Gazette reports that the county expects to release a public statement after the meeting.

Other local jurisdictions, like Loudoun and Fauquier counties, which participate in the Secure Communities program, say it’s an effective, uncontroversial tool for removing criminal aliens, the Sun Gazette also reported today.

I expect it will be a very polite and very short meeting.
It must be amazing to work in the fantasy-land of the Arlington County Government. Unhindered by the reality of federal law and politics, wasting taxpayers’ money on political theater that will go nowhere. Lets see, does ICE was to accomodate Arlington County, or face an angry (likely republican) Congressional Oversight Committee? Hmmmm. I wonder how it will turn out.

“Local law-enforcement officials from nearby jurisdictions said their agencies already submit digital fingerprints to the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security. The automatic sharing of such information with ICE does not pose any additional monetary or labor costs, they said. It’s no extra work for us,” said Lt. James Hartman of the Fauquier County Sheriff’s office, which began participating in the Secure Communities program in October. “You press the ‘send’ button and it goes off to wherever it needs to go off to.”

OK, Tejada, Zimmerman, et al.: stop wasting our money on having county staff and attorneys trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist.

Why doesn’t the County Board ask the legal citizens of Arlington how they feel about opting out? Don’t we have a right to a secure community? They are just inviting all the crooks and gang members to come here !

Sounds like the County Board believes they have our (US Citizens) interests at heart, huh? NOT

Way to go Tejada for draggin this on wasting more of our tax money.
