Another Tire-Slashing Spree in Langston-Brown

by ARLnow.com December 15, 2010 at 8:17 am 1,641 17 Comments

It was a pretty lousy start to the morning for a number of residents of the Langston-Brown neighborhood.

We’re hearing that the tires were slashed on more than 30 cars overnight. Investigators are on scene taking photos.

Among the streets hit were Culpepper Street and 19th Street, near Glebe Elementary School.

This incident comes less than two months after another tire-slashing spree in the same neighborhood. On Oct. 20 we reported that a vandal slashed the tires on 15-20 cars in the area.

I don’t see this ending well for the habitual tire slashers. Remember – VA is armed and some nuts love their cars more than their kids.

    • LP

And those same nuts can open-carry.

    • CrystalMikey

I’d be one of those nuts; but I don’t have kids. So the car easily takes precedence. I’m sure the local tire stores are seeing “$$$” right now though!

      • PikeHoo

If you get the front and back slashed, I believe you have to replace all 4. 30 cars x $400 (estimated at the low end)…the damage adds up quickly

Hmmm…. I’m not sure where the choice between car and kids comes in. But, certainly some nuts love their cars more than they love the vandal slashing their tires. A surprise Louisville Slugger to the head works just as good as a firearm too. Better have eyes in your head tire slasher, because some nut WILL get you if you keep it up too long.

Crime in Halls Hill? Since when?

    • LT

Let me guess, you don’t even live in that neighborhood?

  • From the Hill

If APD is not too busy eating donuts, they might want to do some actual police work and find out who is responsible for these crimes. Time to get out of your cruisers and start knocking on some doors.

    • That’s not fair. There were probably a half dozen officers out in the cold taking photos and looking for more victims this morning.

    • SoArlRes

Hey now. I’ve always had good experiences with the APD – they’ve been professional and responsive. It’s rare to see them slacking.

        Agree

[Insert stupid North vs. South Arlington comment here]

Same thing happened in Lyon Park earlier this year. They had to be some hardy SOB’s to get out in that cold and wind for a round of tire slashing. I was fortunate, they only slashed one of mine earlier this year, but I had to buy two new ones for the rear.

My neighbors who are long-time residents say this is the fourth or fifth time this has happened.

First time for me, and only one tire slashed, and that’s bad enough. Fourth or fifth time? I’d be forming a posse.

Perhaps it’s time for another blind item: who do you think is committing the serial slashings? My guess: enviro-nazis who don’t think poor people should be allowed to have private transportation.

    • mehoo

Awesome idea there, Aaron. I’m sure that’s it.

male, 14-22, below average intelligence with way too much time on his hands. get this kid some video games or internet porn and it’ll go away.

more serious, what’s the punishment for something like this? wouldn’t mind seeing them go to jail for a couple years.
