Whether you’re celebrating the holiday in Arlington or out of town, ARLnow.com wishes you and your family a very happy, abundant and safe Thanksgiving.

We’ll be back on Friday with a special Black Friday edition of the Morning Notes, followed by normal coverage on Monday. And, of course, we’ll be here should any significant breaking news happen over the holiday weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, ArlNow, and to all of Arlington.

A nice looking bird in the pix, but thinking about its substance propels thoughts of a vegan dinner.

How far we’ve come. I read the other day that the Pilgrim Thanksgiving feast probably consisted of a bit of deer, bird and corn, totaling perhaps 500 calories in total. And these were folks who had to work hard from sunrise to sunset to cut and gather wood for fires, to forage for food and to erect shelter from the elements and assemble coverings for their bodies.

There were essentially on their own. None of our medical care. No FEMA. No grovery stores. No social welfare safety net. It was them, the Indians and the elements, and New England winters can be and are artic-like.

Things are better. A lot better. Lots to be thankful for.

i can’t imagine how hard it was for our first immigrants. traveling and living in VA and NC, having experienced the heat and humidity and utter suckiness of weather and all living conditions w/o “modern” (still non-existing in several counties) accomodations, i am so amazed and awed by their hardiness. i’ve traveled thru parts of VA and NC that are so dirt-fracking-poor it’s like “this is the US of A?” i grew up in a 3rd world south american country, and i never expected to see such utter dirt poverty in America….

    Happy Thanksgiving!

By the way, are you going to be offering a discount on Black Friday too? I mean, the current price is kind of high. Wait a minute… I forgot that there are no subscription fees. What would the comments section be without someone griping and whining?

Thanks ArlNow. Thankful for this medium, sock puppets, lap dogs, trolls, pseudonyms, posers, first-posters and all others that make it part of my daily diet.
