  • Tre

    I am pro-minigolf

    • Arlington, Northside

      Bring Putt-Putt Back to Arlington!!!!

      • SouthPikeGuy

Then the economy collapsed, and developers interested in mini golf could not be found.

How can you print that with a straight face?

      • Lee-n-Glebe

        Upton Hills?

        • Tre

Upton is great, but I get panic attacks when I head west of Glebe.

  • Parks User

Instead of worrrying about this, the Parks Dept should focus on maintaining the parks it has. Example: I see tons of trees that are about to get eaten up by ivy (and some that already have) and they do nothing about it.

Yet they love putting on events and adding fun gamey things.

I’m already paying them to do it. It’s their job. I’m not using my limited free time to do someone’s job, whose salary I’m helping to pay. that’s like paying some kid to mow my lawn and then doing myself, but he gets to keep the money.

        • cyclist

No, it’s not their job. There is no job with the job description of pulling weeds in the park. Everyone in the parks department is already doing something else.

So you need to either volunteer to help, or you need to pay more in taxes to hire someone to do it.

          • Vikram

Who takes care of the county’s recreation and sports fields and gets them ready for competition?

          • Stuart22207

There is one full-time and one part-time position in Arlington assigned to invasive plant removal.

        • Volunteer

You pay taxes. You use the park. The same logic says when you use the park you don’t clean up after yourself because that is the county’s job to do so.

Too many people in this country have a sense of entitlement, and because they pay “taxes” feel they don’t have to do anything for the community.

Too many people need to realize volunteerism can lead to opportunities that would come only if they take some of their limited free time. If people would look at volunteering this way, perhaps more could be done with the decreasing resources this country, and world has.

          • Parks User

We’re not talking about LITTER–we’re talking about invasive plants. Big difference. Maintaining and caring for the vegetation is the parks dept’s job.

You’re saying that all my taxes buy are the privilege of using the parks–am I supposed to pave the streets too?

            Come on.

          • Josh S

You can bluster all you want, PU, but you’ve got no argument here. You are not an island as much as your devices make you feel like one…..

  • Allie

I’m pro-mini golf too, but on this space? I pass that triangle of grass all the time, and it doesn’t seem nearly large enough to fit even 9 holes of mini-golf. Also mini-golf surrounded on 2 sides by super busy, unattractive roads, and one side by a mammoth parking garage structure sounds less than appealing.

  • Zach

JetBlue nonstop DCA -> ATX is great news.

    • CW

“Respectively” means #1 from first list goes with #1 from second list, #2 with #2, etc. So sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s southwest to Austin.

      • Zach

Ah, I misread. However it was the direct flight I was excited about, not the airline.

    • BrianKal

And AUS is the airport code, not ATX

      • CourthouseChris

No, I’m pretty sure op is excited about the new nonstop service to Atbasar Airport, Kazakhstan.

      • Duh

No, AUS is the USPS code for Austria. Which is next to Australia. Which is where they shot Lord of the Rings. Duh.

        • WeiQiang

Who shot the Lord Of The Rings??? Was it fatal?

          • drax

Zach, the mayor of Austin, TX, shot him. Pay attention.

          • Little Known Fact

Austin, TX, was named after Jane Austen, but the early Texians couldn’t spell.

  • CW

Anybody know what went on on the Lee Hwy side of the Key Marriott this morning? Big ACFD response with the right lane of Lee blocked off, but no cars or bikes or anything else to suggest an accident. Would seem strange if something happened in the hotel that they wouldn’t pull their trucks into the lot.

    • JamesE

Most likely some type of public masturbation

      • Kudos

        Thanks for the laugh.

    • BrianKal

Could be the hydrants are on the street, so they left some apparatus there

    • Arlington, Northside

Possibly doing something for the salutes for Police Week or stand by for the fly over of IwoJima Memorial.

      • CW

Sorry, was vague earlier, there was an ambulance and definitely someone being loaded into it. Just seemed to be a strange situation. The thing that would make the most sense would be if someone just collapsed on the sidewalk.

        • cyclist

The bike sites say it was a bike accident.

    • In the know

Fire department units were dispatched for the report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle in front of the hotel.

  • Lou

Classic case of overthinking with that park. How about just sod it, put some paths and benches and lights and maybe a small fountain and some elevation changes. Then see if people actually will use it.

  • Arlington, Northside

If no putt-putt golf, how about putt putt motors and put a go-cart track in the space? A small track could just fit.

  • brendan

glad they added an alaskan flight to pdx. the United one was always packed and absurdly expensive.

    • Josh S

Skeptical that the addition of one flight will make much of a dent in either the price or the crowd.

  • bobco85

I think it would be nice to convert that triangle of space into a community garden. It would get more use than if it were a park, and I don’t see much potential in a mini-golf course (although that would be really awesome to have one there). Something better than a depressingly forgotten piece of barren land would be great.

    • Arlington, Northside

Cool idea, but the way some of our community gardens look, it might not be the best enterance to the Ballston commercial area, not that it in not an eye sore as it stands today. Maybe it would make a nice community rose garden like BonAir Park, but the counties vegtable gardens, while awesome in concept, execution and providing good eats, are generally not too pretty.

    • or at least just plant lots of trees & flowers, i’d be happy with that.

    • JamesE

      beer garden

      • Ballston

Drunk mini-golf garden? Like an outdoor H street country club.

        • JamesE

          Works for me!

  • ArlingtonWay

What? An article about the Arlington Youmg Dems Date auction, and not a single Melissa Bondi joke? You’re slipping, ArlingtonNow-ers!

  • KalashniKEV

    Mmmmm… Young Democrats?

    I’ll take two!

  • Perfect Suggestion

How about a petting zoo slash DIY organic butcher shop? Take the kids to pet the little goaties and lambsies, and then, when the latter get too big and old, you can buy ’em for meat and butcher ’em right there, and take your fresh meat home on the Metro. Slow food!
